I had a great time reacting to this, yet again and am so stoked to. The sequel trilogy had it right using the right mix of both but now we frequently watch films which is CGI intensive such as Marvel, DC etc but no one says it is too much because the effects are decent. On a side note, I remember when people complained about how much CGI were in the prequal trilogy and they had a point. They looked fine in DVD and Blu Ray but now the 4K has overtaken the CGI 2K effects so in future the film will also look like to have poor effects which had not happened to Star Wars before. You could see the actual paint lines on Darth Maul when he lifts off his hood.įor the first time the special effects in this film looked poor. Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson looked very tanned. Some of TPM's highs are so high that it elevates it into being a good SW movie. The OT is one of my favourite set of movies ever, but let's not pretend they are perfect movies. But to be fair, Alien is one of the greatest movies ever made so that's a high watermark (and is another reminder that SW is not aimed at grown adults). I mean, just compare the dialogue and acting in Alien to A New Hope. Now, before anyone tells me 'but A New Hope came out in 1977 so you can forgive the bad acting, dialogue and campyness' I'd remind them that less than 2 years later, Alien was released, and that still stands the test of time today and then some. Childish characters? How about a boggly-eyed camp robot.Bad CGI? Very harsh considering when it was made but ANH is hard to watch because of this. He does improve drastically with each film).
